North Gait Lease Program
You’ve always wanted your own horse…
But the thought of buying one is overwhelming, or you don’t know where to start.
A lease can be a great option! Allow me and one of my equines to help you navigate the ins and outs of horse ownership. You get the use of one of my horses and his/her tack while taking weekly lessons, taking part in his health care and maintenance, and developing your horsemanship skills. Leases are a 3 month commitment and include one lesson per week. Lets visit about having a horse in your life a reality!
Commonly asked questions:
1) How many days do I have to commit to coming to the barn if I am leasing a horse?
a) As many or as few as you want! The perk of leasing is that you have total flexibility in your schedule to enjoy your leased horse when you have the time. This allows a you to see how much time you really are able to spend with a horse. Its a great way to see if you really want to have your own horse, or if certain seasons are best for your “horse time” and you’re off the hook the rest of the year. I will care for the horses every day so that you don’t have to - but also allow you the option to get more involved if you think horse ownership is in your future.
2) If I want to continue my lease after the 3 month commitment, can I still lease the same horse?
a) Absolutely, consistency is a perk for the horses, as well as for your growth as a horseperson. If you are enjoying your horse, and want to continue your lease with that horse, you have first option to continue with him/her. If your goals as a rider have changed, and you would like to try a different horse, we can asses and find one that will work for you!
3) Is my son/daughter able to spend time at the barn even when I can’t be there?
a) Yes. But I have to be here to ensure the safety of both your child and my horse. Make sure you communicate with me so that you know I am available to be at the barn when your child plans to be here. That way everyone stays safe!
4) My child would like to start 4H, or Pony Club, or…. Can they do that with a leased horse?
a) Yes. I am happy to allow your child to use his/her leased horse in equine programs such as 4H and Pony Club. These are excellent programs to enhance your child’s horsemanship skills and are well monitored and supervised for both the safety of the horses and the kids. We can also open up a conversation about the potential to bring your leased horse to events hosted by these clubs. Please note, I do not run a 4H program, or Pony Club program out of my barn specifically, but I can direct you to great clubs to help get you started.
