What is the North Gait Intensive Horsemanship Series?

The North Gait Intensive Horsemanship Series is a year long mentorship program in a like minded and supportive group.  It's broken up into several different classes, check-ins, mini clinics, personal lessons, and trail rides that foster connection, growth, and challenges.

Here is a breakdown of the 24 in 2024

1 Goal planning Session : Jan 28th : 1 - 3PM

Lets make a plan for 2024!  It's time to write down some of your horsemanship goals and we’ll break them down into bite sized pieces so that they can actually get accomplished.  How many times have you written a goal in January - only to work on it for a week or two and then it falls by the wayside?  Not this year - this group will help support you in staying on track and succeeding with your goals!

3 Zoom meetings : Feb 8, Nov 7, Dec 5 : 8pm

These meetings will be a tool to stay connected as a group even when the weather is bad!  We’ll use these during the cold months to keep chipping away at our goals, support each other, celebrate the milestones accomplished, and generate ideas to stay active during the cold months.

2 Personal Phone Calls

A personal check in from me to you to troubleshoot, brainstorm, or revisit your goal board and make sure we are on track.  These are scheduled when you need them!

4 Open Arena : March 11, June 6, August 22, October 3 : 4 - 8 PM

These practice days - four hours each - are for you to work on YOU in a supportive and positive group setting.  Each practice day will allow you to meet with the group and you can use the North Gait facilities however you need to.  Join another on a trail ride, work in the arenas, play with obstacles, connect in a group setting, watch your peers, enjoy time for yourself!  Each practice day will also have a 20 minute intensive with Abbie built in for each individual - think of this as a little one-on-one time to ask questions, get help, or try something new. Stay for an hour, or stay for all four.

4 One Hour Intensives with Abbie

These are private one-on-one lessons for you to schedule at your convenience with Abbie throughout the year.  Use them all in a month, or spread them out to use when you’re feeling stuck. These are hours specifically devoted to YOU and available to fit your scheduling needs.

3 Obstacle Focus Sessions : May 9, July 25, Sept 5 : 5:30 - 7pm

We will meet in the spring, summer, and fall for an obstacle focus session where we can introduce our horses to new challenges.  Each session will be 4 hours long (with mental breaks built in) and have a slightly different focus each time.

3 Group Trail Rides : May 25, July 13, October 12

Each of the trail rides will be at a different location, focusing on different aspects of trail riding, for example, water crossings, technical trails, moving out (gait work, or conditioning) and so forth.  Bring a lunch, we’ll rest and connect after each ride before heading back home!

3 Group Lessons : April 25, June 20, August 8 : 4-8pm

These lessons will be broken up into smaller group sessions (2 to 3 riders in each). They’ll allow you to work on your goals in a small group setting with others that are striving for the same goals.  You are also welcome to observe the other group lessons to glean information and insight from your peers’ goals as well!

1 Overnight camping weekend : Sept 20-22

A horse camping weekend!  Tentative location is Togo State Forest Horse Camp.
